Are you KIDDING ME!?!? I'm a vegan who hit up multiple spots the last time I was in the chicago area, just to be disappointed by every single donut I got. This time, I didnt even bother marking off food places on the map. My friend and I just passed by Brewed on our way back to the car from vintage shops and decided to drop in to grab coffee. Imagine my shock when I found out I had a treat option! They had a vegan ! As I continued browsing, I discovered another vegan donut. Then another. Then another. THEN a DANISH! AAAAAND they had vegan cream cheese for bagels. HEAVEN. The monster aesthetic was a vibe too. The seating was nice. I don't usually drink Chai, but I had a lot of coffee, so decided to get something milder and I was prepared for it to be disgustingly sweet and not spiced right-- i was wrong... even the chai impressed my picky self. Was a gem of a find. I'll be back when I'm in Chicago again.
I really love The Brewed. Interesting drinks, fun events, and the staff is beyond lovely. Shout out to Emily for being amazing and introducing me to The Brewed! I attended a wonderful Valentine's day screening of The Fly here, I love the Patch Nights hosted by Katie, they have wonderful horror/art markets every once and awhile. And there is fun horror memorabilia everywhere, along with the Bric-A-Brac store that is attached. It's always fun to wander in there and look at records and old toys! This is definitely my favorite coffee shop in Chicago. Places like this make it hard to ever want to go back to chain coffee spots again.
The Brewed in Avondale is the one stop shop for coffee lovers and Horror enthusiasts. The Brewed has been on my Chicago bucket list for 2 years and it feels so good to finally have experienced the legendary Horror Coffee shop. Full of horror memorabilia, posters, and great food - you should definitely add this one to your list! Thank you to all of the amazing people that keep this establishment running as smoothly as they do. During my time at the shop, there was a line pretty consistently, and they helped each customer with a smile. That takes true spirit and dedication!
Not only is this place so cool for someone who loves horror movies but the drinks and pastries were amazing. I got some kind of banana mocha iced latte and it was one of the best iced coffee drinks Ive ever had. The donuts were also insane.
The Skull Island drink had an interesting taste since I don't usually go for drinks with banana syrup, but it was fun to try. Their bagels were very good and perfectly toasted, and the vegan cream cheese wasn't bad either. The staff was super nice and welcoming, and the decorations really make the place stand out. There's also a good amount of seating, and you can even pop into the record store next door through the connecting door, which is a cool touch.
Never a disappointment! Iced Firestarter Latte and Beacon donuts really got me hooked. Lots to look at while you wait for your order. Fun events held regularly and a great record shop next door. This spot has been a huge boon to the community!
This place is honestly so cool. I love coming here, getting a drink and just staring all over at the decor because of the little touches. The horror theme fits great and I bet this place is awesome for Halloween. I love their coffee and THC drinks.
I thought they were very nice, although I asked about buying some Blu-rays competitive to online prices, they wanted like 25 for Christine. It isn't a rare disc, at all. I got it for 11.45, sealed, Blu-ray. There ARE some that ARE difficult to find, but that's not one. I ended up getting it sealed from eBay, which I would have preferred to not have to do. I probably would have bought more discs, often just to help local places. I wanted it to be fair to both parties, of course, but people on the lower-end of the food chain are already REALLY financially hurting. It's only going to get worse, too. We can't toss away any cash. I found another movie or two at internet archive dot c. Rule is, don't buy anything unless you've seen it and know you already love it. Check library first. Also, Books4Cause is barely 2 blocks away. They have all kinds of stuff free. Tho not much bizarre horror, admittedly. Think not King, but Bentley Little. Young guy w brown wavy hair waited on me. He was very nice. I just had regular drip coffee. It was a bit strong for my taste. I'll probably thin it down once I get home. I thought the old TV was cool. We had a very old Mitsubishi. They're EXTREMELY theft-proof, as they weigh 400 pounds. I'd go plus half star for not having disposable stir sticks; instead just regular spoons. Maybe put a trash by the creamer and sugar over across the room..? If there were a bar rag to wipe anything, I would have grabbed it over napkins, personally.
